In our working days, amid calls, prompts, and notifications, we still find ourselves holding tools that, though they come from what now feel like distant “eras,” seem determined to stay with us a while longer. It’s not always pure nostalgia, in this case too, it’s about optimization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The character counter<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, it still exists. And yes, someone at the agency still uses it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2026 it seems like an anachronism: a counter that tells you how many characters, words, or lines you’ve written. But anyone who works with text knows that form is function. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A title truncated on Google, a meta description that runs too long, a PPL text that exceeds 40 characters: the character counter is there, counting for us, measuring the boundaries, telling us plainly which limits not to cross. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI can write 10,000 words in a minute, but it doesn’t know when to stop. The character counter does. It’s the guardian of concision, the last line of defense against automated verbosity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Post-it<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI has its lists, its reminders, its automated workflows. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the real yellow Post-it – paper, peel-and-stick – still holds its superpowers today: a digital reminder disappears when you check it off; a Post-it can potentially stay forever, crooked and faded, bearing witness that a thought once passed through.<\/strong> It’s physical memory, not data. In our communication work, where everything points toward optimization, the Post-it is the note that reminds us of something important, a physical extension of the digital screen, a prompt to pick up from and perhaps spark a better idea.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The philosophical desk calendar<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kind that sits on your desk, one quote per day. Not synced to any cloud, not connected to any notification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI can generate an infinite number of aphorisms, but the philosophical calendar has one radical quality: it doesn’t listen to us, it doesn’t adapt to our mood, it doesn’t learn our tastes. It offers us a foreign thought – often uncomfortable, always unexpected. In an age of algorithmic bubbles where everything is fitted to us, to our interests, to our desires of the moment, the philosophical calendar reminds us that the unexpected, the unforeseen, is part of daily life and it’s up to us to understand it and turn it to our advantage.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The record player<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Streaming music is infinite, skippable, personalized by algorithms that know our tastes better than we know ourselves. But when you’re working from home, where the line between office and living room dissolves somewhere between the sofa and the desk, many people still prefer the company of a good old vinyl record. Lifting the needle, placing it down, flipping to side B: you can’t skip to the next track with a tap the way you can on any streaming platform – you have to listen<\/strong>. It’s not background noise. It’s a ritual, at the start of the day or in the middle of it, that helps us reconnect and find focus and energy<\/strong> between one notification and the next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copy-paste<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, you read that right. We could go on with plenty of other things, but we’d rather close with the action that has worked the same way since the very first version of DOS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. Cmd+C, Cmd+V. A sequence of commands that has always existed and that, in a few seconds, can change everything we’re working on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Copy-paste forces us to process, filter, and adapt the information we’ve pulled from elsewhere. And it’s that moment of slowing down, that apparent pure automatism, that turns out to be the most important part of the whole operation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
